The jury of the prestigious Red Dot Awards has honored Audi with the “Client of the Year” award prize for the most cooperation with creative partners in the field of communication design.
This is the fourth year that this special prize has been presented and the third time it has gone to Audi, the brand with the four overlapping rings.
The jury honored a total of nine individual projects of Audi AG with a Red Dot for outstanding communication design, making Audi the most successful company in the contest.
It is interesting that a brand like Audi leverages on the innovativeness of other smaller brands and companies, with such stunning results as are found in some of the latest car releases and refreshes from Audi, such as the Nanuk Quattro Concept, the Sports Quattro, the RS 5, the R8, etc, and in these special awards.
Among the award-winning individual projects, the brand’s exhibition at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show was singled out for the especially coveted “Red Dot: Best of the Best” title. At the CES in Las Vegas, visitors had the opportunity to experience innovations from Audi regarding vehicle connectivity as well as light and sound technologies in a trade fair stand designed as a black cube. As an opening, this “black box” featured a gigantic cone of light that served as the stage for three special automobiles – the e-tron Quattro, RS 5 Cabriolet, and the Q7.
Eight other communication projects of the brand, implemented by seven agencies, are also recipients of a Red Dot Design Award 2013 – from the temporary urban installation “Audi Sphere” in Copenhagen all the way to “Audi car chat”, an online dialog platform. An elaborately produced film that presents the history of Audi on a 180-degree panoramic screen in the museum mobile at the Audi Forum Ingolstadt is yet another landmark in communication design: “We show what has made Audi unique for over 100 years: mobility in its most emotional form,” says Thomas Frank, Head of Audi Tradition.
We’re especially interested in that statement of “mobility in its most emotional form,” because it comes exactly down to that since, a car goes beyond transportation from point A to B and back, which is why we continue to look into brands and models that live up to what they promise in designing cars that really impart joy in driving and bring only these to you.
The Red Dot Design Award is presented by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein-Westfalen in the independent disciplines of product design, communication design and design concepts. This year’s awards ceremony in the communication design category was held evening of yesterday, October 18 at the Konzerthaus on Berlin’s Gendarmenmarkt square, Berlin, Germany.
